Advent Day 15: Peace (Continued)

Hemingway wrote a character that made the declaration that man could be defeated but not destroyed.

It was Santiago from “The Old Man and the Sea.”

Which is, in itself, a great story of resurrection.

But the idea is true of peace too.

It is, all at once, both fragile and resilient.

Peace can be taken away in an instant, defeated in a moment, but not destroyed entirely. We are never without a pathway back to peace.

Advent assures us that peace is persistent; that peace will have the final say.

So, if you feel like your peace has been defeated, know that it has not been destroyed.
