Advent Day 18: Joy

There’s a lot of talk about joy at Christmas.

But a lot of folks don’t FEEL it.

And that’s ok. The holidays can be sad for many. The holidays often magnify the hole left by what was lost. A person, a job, a friendship.

The good news of Advent is that joy belongs to you.

It’s not a cure-all for sadness and depression, but a helpful and loving partner for the journey.

Joy does not ignore the pain, but gives us the courage to confront it.

Wendell Berry says it this way, “Be joyful though you’ve considered all the facts.”

Because joy is not an emotion you feel, but a road you walk.

And the door is open to you.
