Advent Day 24: Silent

In the tradition of Advent, the divine voice spoke to a prophet named Malachi.

Then that voice was silent for about 400 years.

Just quiet.

Generation after generation waiting for a sound.

Maybe it felt like the divine would never speak again?

But one night was going to be the last night of silence.

An unmarried girl would go into labor, give birth to Emmanuel—God with us, and the divine would speak to the world in the cries of an infant.

If you feel like the divine is silent, don’t despair.

Don’t underestimate the value of a cry that breaks the silence.

Let the silence and the cry lead you to hope inexpressible and joy unimaginable.

Merry Christmas Eve.
