Advent Day 7: Light
I’ve never thought of winter as a hard time.
•
I also live in Florida in 2025 and have access to central heating and cooling.
•
Even a few hundred years ago, however, winter was trying.
•
People prepared for winter.
•
Sometimes they didn’t make it.
•
It was a dark time.
•
But we still deal with a bleak midwinter in our souls. We deal with coldness of heart and darkness of mind. And we deal with dark times that aren’t confined to the colder months. War, famine, and waste.
•
Advent assures us that light is coming to “disperse the gloomy clouds of night, and death’s dark shadows put to flight.”
•
So we wait for the light.
•
To illuminate our personal and internal winters, those things in and around us that are cold, dark, and lifeless. To illuminate our dark world too.
•
And our waiting is not in vain. In fact, as we wait, we even become bearers of the light.
